Rodeo History
In 1971 a group of people belonging to the Lemmon Roping Club got together with the Lemmon Area Chamber of Commerce and thus began the "Boss Cowman" Rodeo. Each year this rodeo is held in honor of an area person who was influential in the development of the community around Lemmon. For the first few years the rodeo was held along Highway 12 at a small arena. In 1975 larger and more complete facility was built at the old fairgrounds sight one mile east of Lemmon. In 1993 the facility was rebuilt at the same location. The "Boss Cowman" Rodeo has grown into one of the largest rodeos in the state of South Dakota. As many as 250 contestants compete for more than $20,000 in purse money each year. Held the second weekend in July, the "Boss Cowman" Rodeo along with a Queen Contest and other entertainment provides lots of activities for thousands of spectators who show up each year.Rodeo You can search for Rodeo Tickets on this page.
